Syria claims the CIA allegedly fabricated pictures taken inside a nuclear reactor in secret.
Senior officials from U.S. intelligence said on Thursday that the building, in the remote eastern desert of Syria, was a secret nuclear reactor to produce plutonium, which can be used to make high-yield nuclear weapons.
They claimed that North Korea with aid in the design, construction and equipping of the building.
But Syria's ambassador to the United States, Imad Moustapha, told reporters in Washington the reports were "absurd" and "absurd".
"This administration has a proven track record of
forgery and fabrication of stories about weapons of mass destruction (WMD). They have done this before," said Mr. Moustapha.
"The difference is the hope that this time the representatives of the American people and American people themselves will be more careful in believing such an absurd, absurd stories like the one we heard (on Thursday)."
So far, Syria has not allowed the international body Atomic Energy (IAEA) to inspect the area, but Syria's United Nations ambassador Bashar Ja'afari has pledged to cooperate with the agency.
According to the CIA, the Syrian se basa reactor in a
small reactor North Korea built in Yongbyon.
The facility produces a small amount of plutonium for nuclear weapons.
Until now, North Korea has not said anything about whether Syria lent a hand in building this type of reactor.
